Is soy the answer, or the problem ?
"Soy is good for you" - we have been told this, however what kind of soy, how much and is this what make Asian people supposedly healthy ?ie: Japanese eat large amounts of Omega-3, so what is it ? Is it the fish, or the soy ?
There is a huge amount of processed soy product on the market now, is it good, or not ?
The effect of soy on the thyroid gland is a major concern. Most thyroid disorders are in women, the same people who are being targeted to eat more soy.
Do the natural soy consumers (Asian) eat anywhere the amount of soy being thrust upon the western world ?

Somewhere I have written about what my grandfather used to teach us all. "Too much of anything is bad. Including too much of good is bad too."
Personally, I can eat soy in only sprout form. Any other soy food gives me gas. I am fairly healthy otherwise and have a better tolerance to almost all types of foods. It's when I eat soy derivatives like soy milk, soy protein based products, imitation meat made of soy and even tofu, gives me gas. Now I am not saying soy is bad. A billion Chinese can't be wrong. However if you observe carefully, you will find the answer to your question.
It is not soy by itself that can be so important. One needs to consider other food stuff, environment and of course genetic build of the individual. Mediterranean diet is good for your heath, but excuse me, I live in Alaska. Now Mediterranean diet is impossible there.
One thing I must point out, there is indeed, too much of hype given to soy as a healthy food alternative.
In the end, I always suggest to people. Try it. See what it does to you. If it works, fine else it is not for you. Your body will tell you and it will tell you pretty clearly.
