Should sprouts be regulated by FSANZ and if so how ?

Seed sprouts including mung beans, alfalfa, snow peas and bean sprouts are easily contaminated by pathogenic micro-organisms, such as salmonella.

Australia and New Zealand's food standard authority is seeking help and public comment in how to overcome this health hazard.

Dozens of food-poisoning cases are reported worldwide annually because these sprouts are mostly eaten raw.

The sprout industry already has a voluntary code of practice.
